Nyerere Postgraduate Scholarship 2022
The Centre of African Studies is delighted to announce Nyerere Postgraduate Scholarship for a candidate for our MSc in Africa and International Development. The Nyerere Postgraduate Scholarship provide funding for talented Tanzanian students to follow in Nyerere’s footsteps and study at the University of Edinburgh.
Through the kind support provided by a donor, the Centre of African Studies will offer a one-year postgraduate scholarship to a student house in Tanzania to study a Masters-level program in the Centre of African Studies.
The University of Edinburgh is a public research university in Edinburgh, Scotland. The university was granted a royal charter by King James VI in 1582 and officially opened in 1583, it is also one of Scotland’s four ancient universities and the sixth-oldest university in continuous operation in the English-speaking world.
The university played a very important role in Edinburgh becoming a chief intellectual center during the Scottish Enlightenment and contributed to the city being nicknamed the “Athens of the North”. The University of Edinburgh is a member of several associations of research-intensive universities, including the Coimbra Group, League of European Research Universities, Russell Group, Una Europa, and Universitas 21.
The University of Edinburgh has five main campuses in the city of Edinburgh, which include many buildings of historical and architectural significance such as those in the Old Town. The university receives more than 60,000 undergraduate applications per year, making it the second-most famous university in the UK by volume of applications.
The university eighth-largest university in the UK by enrolment, with 35,375 students in 2019/20. The University of Edinburgh had the seventh-highest average UCAS points amongst British universities for new entrants in 2019.
The university continues to have links to the British royal family, having had Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh as its chancellor from 1953 to 2010 and Anne, Princess Royal since March 2011. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, the University of Edinburgh rated 4th by research power and 9th by GPA amongst British universities.
The results also show that the university was home to more than 35% of Scotland’s 4* (world-leading) research. The University of Edinburgh was rated 13th overall in The Sunday Times 10-year average (1998–2007) ranking of British universities based on constant league table performance.
In 2015, THE Global Employability University Ranking, the University of Edinburgh ranked 23rd in the world and 4th in the UK for graduate employability as voted by international recruiters. A 2015 government report found that the university was one of only two Scottish universities (along with St Andrews) that some London-based elite recruitment firms considered candidates from, especially in the field of financial services and investment banking.
The University of Edinburgh was rated 24th in the world and 5th in the UK by the 2021 Aggregate Ranking of Top Universities, a league table based on the three major world university rankings, ARWU, QS, and THE.
In the 2022 U.S. News & World Report, the university rated 32nd globally and 5th nationally. The 2021 World Reputation Rankings placed Edinburgh at 30th worldwide and 6th nationwide. In 2021, the University of Edinburgh rated 63rd amongst the universities around the world by the SCImago Institutions Rankings.
Worth of Nyerere Postgraduate Scholarship
The Nyerere Postgraduate Scholarship will cover tuition fees and an annual stipend of £13,500.
Eligibility for Nyerere Postgraduate Scholarship
- The scholarship will be made to a student house in Tanzania who is accepted on a full-time basis for the MSc in Africa and International Development.
- Applicants must submit a personal statement for the scholarship application which should clearly state why they are applying for this scholarship, along with their experience and aspirations in the field of Africa and International Development.
- You must also arrange for two referees to submit reference letters supporting your application to be qualified for the scholarship.
